New arrivals for the week of February 10, 2015
Addicted
Alexander and the terrible...
Kill the Messenger
Nightcrawler

Greetings everyone,

This week's biggest new-releases include: "Addicted" (w/Boris Kodjoe, Sharon Leal and Tasha Smith), "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day" (w/Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner), "Kill the Messenger" (w/Jeremy Renner, Rosemarie DeWitt and Andy Garcia) and "Nightcrawler" (w/Jake Gyllenhaal, Bill Paxton and Rene Russo). A few other titles of note came out this week, too: the Cannes Film Festival critical favorite "Force Majeure" (Sweden/France/Norway; w/Johannes Kuhnke and Lisa Loven Kongsli), "Laggies" (w/Keira Knightley, Chloe Grace Moretz and Sam Rockwell) and "Rosewater" (directed by Jon Stewart; based on the story of Iranian-Canadian journalist Maziar Bahari). If you're at all interested in the pre-punk/new-wave British music scene, you know Graham Parker, king of the Pub Rock scene -- "Don't Ask Me Questions: The Unsung Life of Graham Parker and The Rumour" is an great documentary about their 2011/12 reunion with highlights from the early days. And, Disney finally re-released "DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp" (1990). You can check out all of this week's new arrivals below.

Giant Anime Sale lives on -- and now with even lower prices! We just dropped the price on the remaining Anime titles (about 3,000 of them) to $3 each or 4 for $10. There are still plenty of great titles worth grabbing. Today we'll start using our newly freed up shelving to make room in our General and International sections. Also, the 600 or so Anime titles we held back from the sale are back out for rent -- that includes all the Miyazaki, Cowboy Bebop, Death Note, One Piece, etc. It's always a good day to stop by!

Late Fees for Block owners get a makeover -- Until today, late fees for everyone were $1/day per film. Now, if you have aRenters-Block, we'll start converting any $3 in late fees into 1 Block rental. So, keep 1 film for 3 extra days -- 1 Block. Keep 3 films for 1 extra day each -- 1 Block. If you only have $1 in fees right now, leave it there until you have $3 and trade it for 1 Block rental. It's genius!!! You can still renew over the phone but you really don't have to -- it'll work out the same (or better) and you'll have the option of keeping the film for 1, 2 or 3 extra days and only pay for the days you want to keep it. If none of that made sense, ask the next time you're in.

Jedediah Leland got knocked out of First Place by Philip Marlowe in this week's Top Renting Classic Film listing: Howard Hawks' "The Big Sleep" (1946) is the most rented film followed by Frank Capra's "It Happened One Night" (1934) and Orson Welles' "Citizen Kane" (1941). The balance of the Top 10 starts out with a couple of Criterion titles (Stanley Kramer's "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" and Charles Chaplin's "The Great Dictator") followed by one of my big screen favorites, David Lean's "Lawrence of Arabia" (who remembers seeing that at the Virginia Theater? Wow!). The rest of the list chock full of great titles, a few I haven't seen and even more that I really need to watch again. Don't forget, here at Rentertainment we define a "Classic Film" as anything older than I am. In other words, it has to have come out before 1962 (with a few exceptions). Also, Film Noir has its own section (and its own Top Renting List). Here are the Top Renters from our Classic Movie section:
1 BIG SLEEP (1946)/ KEY LARGO (1948)
2 IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT
3 CITIZEN KANE: REMASTERED
4 IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD
5 GREAT DICTATOR
6 LAWRENCE OF ARABIA
7 TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD
8 IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE
9 NIGHT OF THE HUNTER, THE
10 PHILADELPHIA STORY, THE
(a longer version of this list and more "Top 100" lists can be found here)

Have a great week...

Geoff (and all the other Rentertarians)
