Sale Updates...

Friday, August 14 -- Jeff Bossert's piece, "Champaign's Renter Closing Its Doors", ran on WILL Radio this morning -- give it a listen. I must admit, it brought a tear (or two) to my eye...
Thursday, August 13 -- The end is near! Sunday, August 16th, will be Rentertainment's last official day of business. We'll be open from noon to 5:00 selling DVDs and BluRay discs, and then we'll start packing up, tearing down shelving and moving out.
Dr Strangelove
Wednesday, August 12 - Classical Record price drop! We're dropping the price on all the classical records to just $2/ea, multi-disc sets are just $3/set. I'm guessing we're down to about 1,000 LPs in the bins (and the bins below the bin). Since dropping the DVD and BR price to $3.95/ea yesterday, the opera, performing arts and classic musicals collection is shrinking rapidly, too. Better hurry in if there's something you're looking for. And, don't forget, 25% of the money from record sales will be going to WILL AM-FM-TV/Illinois Public Media!
Allegro no Troppo
Tuesday, August 11 - Price Drop 8: ...and the Mystery of Mew -- All DVDs and BluRays are now just $3.95/ea (unless otherwise marked, of course). Although we are still finalizing our exit plan, you can be sure the end is very near. More details in the next day or two. Judging from the shelves and drawers, it looks like about half our inventory in gone. On the bright side, that means there are still about 20,000 films in the store for you to dig through! Lots of bargains. And, at just $3.95 each, I imagine the selection will get slimmer by the hour...
Blade Runner
Thursday, August 6 - Price Drop VII: The Force Awakens -- All DVDs and BluRays are now just $4.95/ea (unless otherwise marked, of course). We're still not sure when our last day will be but it looks like it'll be coming up sooner rather than later. Better grab stuff while you can..
Diva
Wednesday, August 5 -- Classical Record price drop! We're dropping the price on all the classical records to $3/ea, multi-disc sets are $3 for the first disc + $1 for each additional disc. There are still about 1,200 LPs in the bin (and the bins below the bin). There is also a dwindling pile of opera, performing arts and musicals on DVD and BluRay. Hurry in for the best selection. And remember, 25% of the money from record sales will be going to WILL AM-FM-TV/Illinois Public Media!
Diabelli Variations
Tuesday, August 4 -- The final That's Rentertainment t-shirts are here! They are 100% cotton grey shirts and feature our old logo on the front and a slightly edited version of our current logo on the back. We got them in all sorts of sizes and are selling them for $12/ea. Get 'em while they last!

Monday, August 3 -- Sale update:
1) We are no longer renting films -- everything is now for sale (including New Releases). To give New Releases prices a chance to catch up with the rest of the store, today they will sell for $9.95/ea, tomorrow they'll be $8.95/ea, Wednesday $7.95/ea, etc, etc until they reach the price of everything else.
2) Renter-Block owners -- you can use your remaining blocks as credit towards buying films (or LPs) or you can just cash them in. Come on in to see how many you have left on your account.
3) We still do not have a final closing date -- it all depends on when the space gets rented (which I hear could happen sooner rather than later). Watch this space for updates.
4) It's been way too chaotic to deal with posters, action figures, magazine, etc. Hopefully we get to them before locking up. Again, watch this space for updates.
5) T-shirts -- we're getting one last round of t-shirts but I don't when. Soon, hopefully. As usual, watch this space for updates.
Have a great day!

Friday, July 31 -- That's Rentertainment is in the vinyl business again -- we've got over 1,200 classical LPs for sale! Long-story-short, a friend of a friend moved out of town and had to leave his carefully "curated" record collection behind. My friend asked if we could sell them for him at Rentertainment. Easy, right? Not quite, but here they are. All records are $4/ea, multi-disc sets are $4 for the first disc + $2 for each additional. And, you can feel really good about your purchases because 25% of the money will be going to WILL AM-FM-TV/Illinois Public Media. What's old is new again...

Thursday, July 30 - Price Drop VI: The Final Nightmare -- All DVDs and BluRays are now just $5.95/ea (unless otherwise marked, of course). The shelves are starting to look a bit thinner these days but there are still lots of great titles left (at least 25,000 of them). About a third of the TV section is gone. And, remember, TV Series are sold by the season -- just $5.95 per season! There are even still a few hundred Criterion titles on the Criterion shelves. Last time we dropped the price there was a huge surge in sales -- I imagine it'll be even bigger this time. Get here early if there's something you've been waiting to grab...
Oh-no!
Tuesday, July 28 - Oh no! There are only a few days left to rent films at That's Rentertainment. We will stop renting at close on Friday, July 31st. The sale will continue for at least another few weeks after that. Watch this space for periodic updates...
Oh-no!
Wednesday, July 22 - Price Drop 5: On the Road -- All DVDs and BluRays are now just $7.95/ea (unless otherwise marked, of course). I'm guessing there are about 28,000 titles left in the store. The international and classics sections seem to have been hit the hardest but there are still great titles left in each. The TV section is thinning a bit (remember, TV Series are sold by the season -- each season is just $7.95) and there are still a few hundred Criterion titles (but by the end of today, the BRs will be gone -- I'm taking them). If you've been waiting for the prices to drop to grab something, you'd probably better come in soon -- I think stuff will start flying out the door now...

Sunday, July 19 - Supplies: We have thousands of BluRay cases (both regular and slim), DVD cases (mostly slim) and DVD sleeves. Need some? Come on by -- we're selling them for just $1 for any 10... mix and match!

Monday, July 13 - Price Drop IV: The Voyage Home -- We're halfway through our closing sale so let's cut the price to half of what it was originally. DVDs and BluRays are now just $9.95/ea (unless otherwise marked, of course). That includes TV series (sold by the season -- each season just $9.95), what's left of the Criterion titles ($9.95 is like stealing for those!) and everything else (except New Releases) in the store. At this price, the TV shows should move quickly and I think we'll start seeing giant gaps in the International and Independent sections -- there are still lots of great titles in both. Remember, everything in the store is still for rent until the end of the month (or until it gets sold). Plan on staying a while if you're going to go through all the sections -- there are still about 30,000 titles left on the shelves!
film 4
Tuesday, July 7 - Price Drop III: With a Vengeance -- It's time to drop the price once again. DVDs and BluRays are now just $12.95/ea (unless otherwise marked, of course). That includes TV series (sold by the season -- each season just $12.95), Criterion titles ($12.95 is crazy cheap for those!) and everything else in the store... except new releases -- we're not selling those yet. The Shout!Factory 13-disc Herzog collection went to a very deserving home last week but we still have the 6-disc Herzog Documentaries & Shorts box. I don't imagine it will make it through the week. A quick scan of the shelves can turn up a ton of bargains. Come early, come often...
film 4
Friday, June 26th - Price Drop 2: Electric Boogaloo -- We're dropping the price on DVDs and BluRays again: now just $14.95/ea (unless otherwise marked, of course). That includes TV series (sold by the season), Criterion titles (tons of DVDs and BRs left) and everything else in the store... except new releases -- we're not selling those yet. The very cool 9-disc CAV laser disc Star Wars Trilogy box (w/hardcover book!) went home with a lucky customer yesterday. Who knows what bargains someone will turn up today...

Monday, June 22nd - PRICE DROP! We're dropping the price on all DVDs and BluRays to $17.95/ea (unless otherwise marked, of course). Some stellar deals were had last week and there are still plenty more in the store -- but, they are moving quickly. As they say, come early for the best selection...

Friday, June 19th - ... and the sale continues! I've seen some amazing stuff get bought in the last few days (Hands on a Hard Body, the DEFA set and all three of Kino's 2-disc Avant-Garde collections to name a few) and the University is in there right now picking out their 2nd pile of titles. If there's something you need to own, I'd suggest coming in sooner rather than later!
Wednesday, June 17th - The first few days of our sale have been a bit chaotic but overall seem to have gone smoothly. As predicted, a lot of the higher end/collectible stuff got scooped up first (although I am still finding super rare stuff as I scan the shelves). I was surprised to see the bulk of our Criterion Collection still intact (DVD and BluRay) -- I would have thought most of them would have flown off the shelves first thing. We'll keep everything at $19.95/ea for a few more days and will then drop the price a few dollars. Grab what you think is worth $19.95 now, come back later for cheaper stuff. The University will be back later in the week to make another giant pile. The first stack was mostly international titles, the out-of-print Disney stuff and a handful of rarities from throughout the store. And, we're still sorting through boxes of doubles, discs without cases, and single discs from TV shows -- that stuff will all go out soon.
Monday, June 15th - At 11am, we'll start selling our collection. We're still working out some of the details but the plan is to start by selling everything at $19.95/ea. After a few days, we'll drop the price a few dollars and sell everything at that new price for a few days. Rinse. Repeat. Grab what you think is worth $19.95 on the first day, come back periodically for cheaper stuff. We'll do this for the next two months, until everything is gone, or our space gets rented out from under us. We've pulled some of the super high-ticket items to price separately (like that awesome Criterion "Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman" collection). We're also working with a few groups to sell chunks of our collection to various organizations and University libraries. And, we're still sorting through boxes of doubles, discs without cases, and single discs from TV shows. Who knows what else we'll find in the depths of Rentertainment!
