In 1997,
That's Rentertainment and the University
YMCA teamed up to bring International Film to the big screen
every month in their Reel World International Film Series. The
brain child of exiting Director of Programs at the Y, Rebecca
Crummey, the series was created to introduce students at the University
of Illinois and community members to international films that
they may not otherwise have been able to see on the big screen.
Films that have been shown at Reel World included: Central Station,
Daughters of the Dust, High and Low, Like Water for Chocolate,
Gabbeh, M, Il Postino, Red and many, many more.
In 2004, the
focus of the program changed and now the films reflect the mission
of the many student programs of the University YMCA. The films
are free to all and is held on the first Friday of every month
(while school is in session) at 7:47pm. Come on down
and watch a film that may very well change the way you see the
world around you.
The current
schedule can be seen at the YMCA's
Reel World page.
